You're right, there are far more than 611 viral variants. Our test focuses on the viral species level: for example, we distinguish between SARS-CoV-1 and SARS-CoV-2, but not between closely related variants of the same virus, such as SARS-CoV-2 Delta, Gamma, or Omicron.
